Tips for a Destination Weddings

From a tropical island to a country side in Italy, a destination wedding can be romantic and beautiful. Where to begin when planning such an event? Start with an experienced wedding planner. There are many details that go into planning a wedding and when it comes to planning out of the country, you want someone who has the resources and expertise to guide you in the right direction. Here are a few tips when starting the planning process:
  • Consider the weather for the time of year you want to get married. If considering an island wedding, try choosing a date that isn't during hurricane season.

  • Giving family members and guest plenty of time to plan ahead will ensure most of them can attend. Be prepared that some people may not attend due to health, finances or simply a fear of flying.

  • Although you are not required to pay all travel expenses, it would be good etiquette to plan travel arrangements as well as accommodations. Giving guest options and pricing will also be quite helpful. Find out about discounts to not only travel and accommodations but also entertainment and activities for your guest during their stay. Some may use this as their vacation.

Honoring Missing Loved Ones On Your Wedding Day

There is no question that you want all of your loved ones together on your wedding day to help celebrate. Unfortunately, whether due to death or distance, that can not always be. Even though they can't be there physically, you can honor them in other ways.
Keep in mind that your wedding day is special and should be a happy occasion. A designated chair for someone who has passed away could be upsetting for those who are missing that person. Try subtle ways to incorporate them without making it a sad occasion for your guest.

Use Facetime or Skype to include family members or friends who are unable to attend.
Mention their names in the program.
If you are displaying pictures, this is great way to honor your loved ones who have passed away.
Attach one or two lockets to your bouquet.
Before the ceremony, light a candle in memory for those who can't attend.

Creating a Website for your Wedding Day

Having a website for your wedding is a great resource for you as well as your guest. It allows you to post the details of your day and can also give your guest a way to get to know more about you as a couple. Some sites even allow your guest to RSVP.
The best time to launch your site is after you have chosen and booked your venue, which allows you to customize your site to the theme of your venue. Including the URL in your save the date cards is a great way to direct your guests to your site.
Make sure to include directions to the ceremony and reception, hotel information as well as discounted rates if there is a group rate reserved, dress code, local attractions and restaurants.

Children in the Wedding

There is nothing more adorable than your niece or nephew dressed in formal wear walking down the aisle. It may seem like an easy task for them, but children are unpredictable and it may not always go as planned. Being prepared will help eliminate some common issues that can arise.

Practice, Practice, Practice! Make sure the children attend the rehearsal. It will help familiarize them with the ceremony site. Have them try on their clothes and walk down a hallway. Let them know which family members will be attending the wedding so they aren't overwhelmed by the large crowd.

Designate someone not in the wedding party to be responsible for the children prior to the ceremony. Having someone to entertain them with keep their minds off of waiting for the adults.

Have healthy snacks and water prepared in a lunch bag. Choose things that will not ruin their clothes if they end of spilling it.

Most importantly, remember that when it's showtime, children may not want to walk down the aisle. That's ok. It can be a scary thing to do. If that happens, have an adult or babysitter prepared to take them out of the ceremony.

Picking Your Wedding Dress

I never expected to find my wedding dress on the first day of looking, at the first boutique my Mother and I visited and I never in a million years thought it would be the very first dress I tried on. Just because I fell in love with the dress instantly, didn't mean I stopped looking. I thought to myself, "there is no way it was going to be that easy!". So we searched for a few more weeks but nothing compared to the first dress, so I finally went back and purchased it. The funny thing was, it was nothing like I imagined my dress to be, but never the less it was perfect for me.
So what happens if you don't fall in love at first sight? Or after months of looking, you still haven't found the one? You have to ask yourself a few questions. Are you fixated on one style? Are there too many opinions when you go looking? Just watch any of the wedding shows and you will see a bride who wanted a certain style but ended up going in a completely different direction.
No matter if you are a size 4 or full figured, not all styles are going to to be right for your body. The most important thing is that you are comfortable, can breath, sit and YOU love it! That brings me to my next point. If you take 10 different people with you when you try on dresses, you will get 10 different opinions and sometimes not the ones you want to here.
My best advice to you is to take just a few people who truly care about your happiness and will not be hurtful with their comments. Again, the most important opinion is your own and regardless of what others think, YOU need to love your dress and feel comfortable wearing it. Good Luck on your search!
